Road to Recovery

The Providence Health Care Road to Recovery Initiative is a system redesign that strives to better address treatment of substance use disorders by providing the right support to each client at the right time.

Once fully implemented, the Road to Recovery Initiative will support clients at every phase of their wellness and recovery journey through health system coordination and integration to ensure a full continuum of services for people who use substances, with a focus on continuous improvement and the generation and integration of research.

The Road to Recovery Initiative is rolling out in a phased approach over four years. The first acute substance use withdrawal management and stabilization beds opened at St. Paul’s Hospital in September 2023, with additional withdrawal management, transitional short-stay and bed-based treatment services to come.

People who use substances deserve the same access to evidence-based care as anyone else, free from stigma. As with all of our services at Providence Health Care, Road to Recovery delivers care in a way that strives to be person-centred, trauma-informed and culturally safe.
