Spiritual health & pastoral care
Information on spiritual health and pastoral care services available to all patients, residents and families at Providence Health Care.
Overview
At Providence Health Care, we respect each person’s religious and spiritual life. We believe there is a connection between spirituality, religion and health.
Spiritual health services are available to you and your loved ones at all our sites. Our spiritual health practitioners and priests are members of our health care teams. They specialize in providing emotional and spiritual care. They support patients, residents, clients, families and health care staff in moments of need. They respect your beliefs, cultural background, values, traditions and practices. We encourage anyone who needs support — no matter their beliefs — to access our services.
What to expect
Spiritual health practitioners can:
- Listen and provide emotional support, counselling, reflection, prayer and mediation.
- Help patients, residents and families cope with illness, loss and grief.
- Arrange for appropriate ceremonies, sacraments and rituals.
- Provide end-of-life support.
- Support those feeling isolated or far from home.
- Assist with ethical issues and decisions.
Two of our team members are Roman Catholic chaplains. They offer sacramental ministry and counselling across our sites.
Spaces for reflection
Most of our sites and facilities have a chapel or designated space for quiet reflection.
