Ear, Nose + Throat (Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery)

We offer a number of services related to hearing and sinuses.

Services

The Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Providence Health Care is distributed across two sites — St. Paul’s Hospital and Mount Saint Joseph Hospital (MSJ). Currently, the Division has eleven active members and offers a number of specialized services.

Thyroid and parathyroid surgery

Specialized assessment (including point-of-care thyroid ultrasound), and surgical management of patients with disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid glands are offered under the direction of Drs. Robert Irvine and D. Anderson at the St. Paul’s site.

Nasopharyngeal Cancer Screening Clinic

Dr. Christopher Man at the MSJ site offers a thorough assessment for early detection of nasopharyngeal cancer through a regularly scheduled screening clinic.

Sino Nasal Surgery

The St. Paul’s Sinus Centre is a world-renowned centre of excellence for the surgical and medical management of diseases of the sinuses and anterior skull base. There are currently three sinus and skull base surgeons (Drs. Amin Javer, Arif Janjua and Jeremy Woodham).

Otology and Neurotology

The Rotary Hearing Clinic is the provincial referral centre for patients with complex disorders related to the hearing and balance system of the inner ear, currently staffed by three neurotologists (Drs. Jane Lea and Brian Westerberg are predominately at the St. Paul’s site and Dr. Chee Thong, is predominately at the MSJ site.)

Endoscopic management of salivary glands

New fibreoptic and laser technology allows Dr. Irvine to visualize and remove obstructing stones in the salivary glands. These previously necessitated surgical removal of the gland.

Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Dr. Ritchie Younger performs cosmetic reconstruction of surgical defects following potentially disfiguring resections of simple and complex facial and head and neck cutaneous malignancies, as well as other facial plastic and reconstructive surgical procedures.

General Otolaryngology

Dr. Amanda Maloney and Dr. Man offer general otolaryngologic care to patients, as does Dr. Kenneth Dubeta, who also has an interest in facial plastic and reconstructive surgical procedures.

General Otolaryngology In-patient Consult Clinic

Staffed by supervised residents in ototolaryngology-head and neck surgery, the clinic offers rapid access to otolaryngologic consultations on a semi-urgent basis.
