Obstetric Internal Medicine Clinic

During your visit

We understand that visiting a clinic, especially the first time, can be intimidating. We want to ensure you know what to expect during your visit.

Meet the team

We are a group of Obstetric Internal Medicine specialists. We work as a team to provide expert advice and ongoing support to pregnant persons.

Many members of our team are involved in research. This helps us provide the best possible care for your family.

Our site is also a teaching clinic affiliated with UBC Faculty of Medicine. We work with medical students and residents completing their internal medicine training.

Arrival & check-in

On the day of your appointment, please plan to arrive a few minutes early to allow for the check-in process.

Our reception staff will greet you. They will then guide you through the necessary paperwork. This includes your medical history and any screenings.

We understand your time is valuable, and we strive to reduce waiting times to the best of our ability. Please note that unforeseen circumstances or emergencies sometimes cause delays. We appreciate your understanding and patience in such situations.

Consultation

Once you have completed the check-in process, we will bring you to a consultation room.

You will meet one of our highly skilled and experienced physicians. They will listen to your concerns. They will also discuss your medical history and answer any questions you have.

Your physician will then conduct a thorough examination. They will:

  • Assess your overall health
  • Address specific issues related to your pregnancy
  • Address issues related to any pre-existing medical conditions or complex medical needs

Diagnostic tests & procedures

Your physician may recommend diagnostic tests or procedures.

These may include:

We will explain the purpose of each test and the procedure involved. We will also let you know about any preparations or precautions.

Treatment plan & follow-up care

Your physician will then develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

They will discuss each option with you. They will share the benefits, potential risks, and expected outcomes.

Shared decision-making is important. We will consider your input and preferences when creating your treatment plan.

Please ask questions, express your concerns and seek clarification as you need. We want you to feel empowered and involved in your health care journey.
