General and subspecialty clinics within the Division of Dermatology:

Rapid Access Dermatology Clinic

This biweekly clinic is housed in the Rapid Access Medical Clinic. Priority is given to urgent consultations within Providence (ie. from emergency rooms or from subspecialty services). It is our goal to facilitate rapid access to dermatologic care for our patients. The Rapid Access Clinics provide teaching to medical students and dermatology residents. Additionally, these clinics provide the core dermatologic training for internal medicine residents across the Province of British Columbia.

HIV Dermatology Clinic

This once-weekly clinic is housed in the Immunodeficiency Clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital and is the only HIV Dermatology clinic in the Province of British Columbia. The specialized clinic caters to the unique and specific dermatologic needs of the HIV population. The clinic provides HIV dermatology teaching to dermatology residents and family practice residents.

Psychodermatology Clinic

The psychodermatology clinic (SKIL Clinic – Skin Health Liaison Clinic) takes place in the Mount Saint Joseph Ambulatory Clinic. It is the only clinic of its kind in British Columbia and is a joint clinic run by Dermatology and Psychiatry. This clinic serves a highly specialized and marginalized mental health population suffering from inter-related skin and psychiatric diseases. Patients referred to this clinic are assessed by both a psychiatrist and dermatologist.

Mount Saint Joseph Urgent Dermatology Clinic

This once-weekly clinic serves the MSJ community, the inpatient services, and takes referrals from all emergency departments and hospital facilities within Providence. Education of medical students and dermatology residents is also a major focus of this clinic.

Dermatology and Rheumatology Clinic (DART Clinic)

This combined sub-specialty clinic runs once a week and specifically addresses the needs of patients with rheumatic and autoimmune diseases. Patients referred to this clinic are seen jointly by a dermatologist and rheumatologist. Urgent referrals are expedited in order to serve patients as quickly as possible. This multi-disciplinary clinic is the first of its kind in the Province of BC. The clinic provides teaching to medical students, dermatology residents, internal medicine residents, rheumatology fellows and connective tissue disease/immunology fellows.

Skin Cancer in Renal Transplant Clinic (SCREEN Clinic)

This Clinic is integrated with the 6A Renal Transplantation Clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital. The clinic provides the only integrated, hospital-based, skin cancer screening clinic in the province for renal transplant patients.  All patients followed within the clinic are offered regular skin cancer screening and treatment.

Teaching activities of Providence dermatologists are supported by the UBC Department of Dermatology. The clinical services at St. Paul's Hospital provide a venue for teaching medical students, residents and postgraduate Fellows. Providence dermatologists provide continuous training to dermatology residents, as well as residents in internal medicine and oral medicine. Dermatologists participate as faculty in UBC-sponsored continuing medical education events in dermatology and dermatopathology for family physicians, internists, emergency physicians, pediatricians and pathologists.

Dermatologists with a primary appointment at Providence undertake clinically based independent and collaborative research and clinical trials. Our consulting staff also supervise basic research programs in immunology, photobiology and the molecular biology of neoplastic and inflammatory skin diseases.
