Every year, our volunteers contribute more than 100,000 hours of time and energy to our organization.

Overview

Welcome, and thank you for wanting to share your time and skills with Providence Health Care. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities in hospitals, long-term care facilities, assisted living, rehabilitation and palliative care. As a volunteer, you are an invaluable resource to enhance the quality of care that we provide for patients and residents at all of our sites.

Volunteers are valued members of the health care teams at Providence. Every day, they make an immeasurable difference to the lives of our patients and residents. Our volunteers experience personal growth through helping others in their community. We will do our absolute best to ensure your volunteer experience is as rewarding as possible. At Providence Health Care, we have eight different sites available for volunteers – each has its own needs and opportunities. Click on the site listed below for more information and a link to the online application.

Holy Family Hospital
Located in South Vancouver, Holy Family Hospital (HFH) is a provincial referral centre and a recognized leader of specialized rehabilitation and residential care for adults in their middle years and beyond. Volunteer opportunities include:
  • Hospital Auxiliary (Gift Shop / crafts)
  • Recreation programs
  • Rehabilitation programs
  • Music Therapy programs
  • Spiritual care
  • Pet Therapy programs-certification required

Mount Saint Joseph Hospital
 Mount Saint Joseph Hospital (MSJ) , a community hospital located on the east side of Vancouver, offers acute care and elder care services. MSJ is respected throughout the province for its multicultural focus and community programs. Volunteer opportunities include:
  • Recreation programs
  • Rehabilitation programs
  • Music Therapy programs
  • Visiting program (Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Surgical Units)
  • Departmental Greeters (Emergency, Outpatient Clinic, Eye Procedure Room, Screening Mammography, PHC Breast Centre)
  • Pet Therapy programs-certification required
  • Patient Library
  • Hospital Navigator

St. John Hospice
 St. John Hospice  is a 14 bed hospice with a home like setting and 24- hour nursing care. It offers supportive end of life care for people with life – limiting illnesses.
  • Patient Visiting : Hospice*

St. Paul’s Hospital
 St. Paul's Hospital is home to many world-class medical and surgical programs, including cardiac services, HIV/AIDS and kidney care. St. Paul’s serves both the local community and patients from across British Columbia and the Yukon. Volunteer positions include:
  • Gift Shop
  • Hospital Navigator
  • Library Cart
  • Emergency Department
  • Maternity Department Special Treasures
  • Patient Visiting: Designated Units
  • Patient Visiting: Palliative Care Unit*
  • Pet Therapy program (Pet therapy programs-certification required)
  • *Volunteers must be a current or past Providence Health Volunteer for at least 4 months before they can apply. Training is offered once per year.

St. Vincent’s: Brock Fahrni
 St Vincent’s: Brock Fahrni , located on Vancouver's west side, is a long term care home for a culturally diverse group of residents, including armed forces veterans. Volunteer opportunities include:
  • Recreation programs
  • Rehabilitation programs
  • Spiritual health
  • Bus outings
  • Special events
  • Pet Therapy programs-certification required
  • Artworks Studio
  • Music Therapy program

 Honoria Conway  is an assisted living residence for seniors. Volunteer opportunities include:

St. Vincent’s: Langara
 St. Vincent’s: Langara is a senior’s long-term care facility located in a residential area of Vancouver. The facility is home to residents from a variety of cultural backgrounds, as well as a specialized unit serving adult mental health clients. Volunteer opportunities include:
  • Gift Shop

  • Rehabilitation programs
  • Spiritual Health
  • Mental Health
  • Visiting programs

 Youville Residence  is a residential care home and a specialized unit (Parkview) serving older adult mental health clients. Volunteer opportunities include:
