Holy Family Residence
Holy Family Residence is home to 126 extended care residents. Our residence is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team, and is based on principles to create a human habitat environment. Loneliness, helplessness and boredom have been identified as the three conditions that plague elders in residential care. The philosophy of care at Holy Family Residence is based on the alleviation of these three plagues. Our residents and staff come from a variety of cultures and walks of life. Each resident is valued as a unique person, deserving of support in order to enjoy a meaningful quality of life.
Holy Family has easy access to a large outdoor patio where residents are encouraged to grow flowers and vegetables in the summer. We have a quiet chapel. We have homey, well lit dining/activity spaces. We have a kitchen space accessible to residents and families.
Our Community
At Holy Family, we are a community. We have six neighbourhoods where caregivers, other residents and their family members are your neighbours. Our staffing is set up to promote relationships and impromptu activities. We know a predictable schedule helps many people especially when remembering things is a challenge for some residents. We also know fun is essential to living.
We encourage residents to personalize their rooms with cherished possessions, photographs and mementos and to get to know their neighbours, who they are and where they came from. Special events are planned regularly, including family nights and birthday celebrations.
Our community is warm and inviting, where:
- All people are welcome and welcome each other.
- The care of the body and spirit are equally valued.
- The day is filled with all kinds of activities – both planned and unplanned.
- Animals, plants, children and the wider community are part of your daily life.
- You have choice in your daily activities.
- You feel recognized and valued for who you are, your life experiences and your abilities
