Pre-Heart Transplant Clinic

After you leave

If you and the team have determined that a heart transplant is the right option for you, the team will then begin a series of testing and specialist interviews. This will help determine if you are a candidate for a heart transplant. Once a team case reviews all the tests, if you are a suitable candidate, you'll move to the next step. Waiting for a heart can take a few months. Sometimes it takes years, depending on patients’ response to treatment. We may discuss with you the possibility of a VAD while you wait for a heart transplant.

A VAD is a mechanical device that assists your heart's function. To learn more, visit the HeartMate 3  website about living with and caring for a VAD.

We will also provide you with information on how to contact the clinic or your nurse. We will tell you when you need to reach out to them to report any worsening heart failure symptoms.
