Resident + Family Councils and Conferences
RESIDENT CARE CONFERENCES
Resident Care Conferences provide an opportunity for the resident, family members or friends and staff to review the resident's care plan and to address any issues. An initial meeting is held six to eight weeks after a resident moves in. After that, care conferences are held annually.
RESIDENT + FAMILY COUNCILS
Resident and Family Councils are organized groups of residents and/or their family members/representatives. Councils meet on a regular basis to maintain and enhance the quality of life of residents through peer support and education, and provide voices for residents and families to improve the experiences of all residents. They provide residents and/or their family members/representatives with an opportunity to provide insights and advice, and to represent the collective interests of residents.
If you are interested in learning more about Resident and Family Councils in general, please refer to the BC Ministry of Health's booklet Developing, Supporting and Maintaining Resident Councils and Resident and Family Councils In Long-Term Care Homes.
