Join us for the 2026 Annual 5-Day Health Ethics Seminar + Annual Health Ethics Conference
We acknowledge with gratitude and humility that this event will take place on the traditional and unceded homelands of the Coast Salish people, the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)
The 4-day intensive seminar & 1-day conference (5-days total) aims to empower participants in recognizing and resolving ethical dilemmas in health care by employing an interactive and case-based methodology. Drawing from the collective expertise of an interdisciplinary faculty and sessional speakers, ethics seminar facilitates a systematic exploration of the various perspectives involved in contemporary bioethical issues, encompassing patients, residents, families, practitioners, and societal considerations.
Topics covered include:
- Respect for persons and respect for autonomy, capacity, and informed consent
- Substitute decision making, substituted judgment and the best interests standard
- Involuntary treatment
- Health ethics and the law
- Ethical issues at early life and end of life
- Ethical considerations for intervening when there are risks of harm to self and to others
Join us at the YWCA Hotel in downtown Vancouver, BC, Canada (733 Beatty St) from April 20 - 23, 2026 and then at the Morris J Wosk Centre for Dialogue (580 W Hastings St) on Friday April 24, 2026
