About this clinic

This teaching clinic helps patients throughout BC who have hypogammaglobulinemia. These patients also experience recurrent bacterial infection. A teaching clinic is one that helps to train medical students.

Hypogammaglobulinemia is a condition where the immune system doesn't make enough antibodies to fight infections. Antibodies, also known as immunoglobulins, keep you healthy. They find and fight harmful bacteria and viruses.

This condition can be passed down in families or acquired later in life due to other health problems. In some cases, the exact cause might not be clear. No matter the cause, a weakened immune system makes infections more likely to happen.

Clinical trials & research

Advances in treatments are all thanks to medical research. Deciding whether to take part in research is up to you and your care team. We have many research programs available. Please ask us if you want to learn more.

Your participation in research can help us learn more about hypogammaglobulinemia. It can help us find better ways to help people like you live and thrive with the condition. Even if you don't benefit directly, your participation can help care for future patients.

The following clinical trials are currently enrolling volunteers. Ask your care team for more information or contact the research team listed on each study or trial. For other information about research at Providence Health Care, please visit Providence Research.
