About this clinic
Lighthouse is a free virtual clinic serving the Vancouver Coastal Health region. We use telephone appointments to provide medical treatment and short-term stabilization for people who use substances.
We are a team of doctors, nurses, and social workers working closely with local service providers to help clients get the care and services they need. Our team will support clients who require in-person assessment or long-term substance use support connect to a healthcare provider.
Opioid Treatment Access Line
The Province launched the Opioid Treatment Access Line (OTA) on August 2024. This is a service operating out of Lighthouse. OTA provides support to any BC resident to receive same day care, including connecting to a clerk, nurse and doctor. We prescribe methadone, suboxone and kadian.
Callers will be connected to regional health-care teams for ongoing treatment and support within their community. Dedicated nurses will help make sure people are getting the longer-term care they need.
Lighthouse and the OTA line makes it faster and easier to access life-saving medication that prevents withdrawal symptoms, reduces the risk of overdose, and to get connected to same day support.
Telephone-based services include:
- Short-term stabilization and treatment for substance use
- Same-day treatment options
- Connection to community care for ongoing treatment
- Social work services

Clinical trials & research
Advances in treatments are all thanks to medical research. While participating in research is a decision you should make for yourself in consultation with your care team, there is much activity in this area so please ask us about our research programs if you’re interested.
By taking part in research, you can help us all learn more about advancing health outcomes and find better ways to help people live and thrive. While you cannot assume benefit to yourself, your participation can make a difference in improving care for future patients.
The following clinical trials are currently enrolling volunteers. Please ask your care team for more information or contact the research team listed on each study or trial. For other information about research at Providence Health Care, please visit Providence Research.
