About this clinic

The HHC Clinic is a multidisciplinary program involving cardiologists, genetic counsellors, nurses and pharmacists dedicated to providing the best possible care for patients with known or suspected heritable (genetic) cardiomyopathy. These include hypertrophic, dilated (nonischemic), and restrictive cardiomyopathy. Collectively, these cardiomyopathies affect up to 1 in 300 individuals and can be passed down from parent to child, and can lead to heart rhythm disturbances, heart muscle dysfunction, and increased pressure inside the heart itself.

Clinical trials & research

Advances in treatments for heart disease are all thanks to medical research. While participating in research is a decision you should make in consultation with your care team, there is much activity in this field. Please ask us about our research programs if you’re interested.

By taking part in research, you can help us all learn more about heart disease and find better ways to help people like you live and thrive. Even if you don't benefit directly, your participation can help care for future patients.

The following clinical trials are currently enrolling volunteers. Please ask your care team for more information. You can also contact the research team listed on each study or trial. For other information about research at Providence Health Care, please visit  Providence Research.

Medical & professional referrals

Specialists and family doctors can refer the following patients and families to the program:

  • Patients with a suspected or known diagnosis of HCM
  • Other non syndromic forms of heritable cardiomyopathy such as non ischemic cardiomyopathy and restrictive cardiomyopathy
  • First-degree relatives of the above
