Hayley joined the BC Adult Bleeding Disorders Program in 2019. 

Dr. Merkeley grew up in the interior of BC.  She attended the University of Victoria where she obtaied a Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Biopsychology and Spanish.   She attended medical school, Internal Medicine and Hematology residencies at UBC.  She completed a clinical fellowship in red blood cell disorders at the University of Toronto, and concurrent MSc in Public Health from the University of London's School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.  

She works as a general hematologist at Providence Hematology, with privileges at St. Paul's Hospital and Mount St. Joseph's Hospitals, in the Provincial Hemoglobinopathy Program and Adult Bleeding Disorders Program at St. Paul's Hospital.   

She oversees medical students and residents rotating through hematology at St. Paul's and sits on the Hematology residency training committee.    Her clinical and research interests are in sickle cell disease and thalassemia.  

She is the mother to a young son, with another baby on the way in March 2021.
