Our community-based services

Working with, and in, your community.

While most of Providence Health Care's services are offered in acute care hospitals and long-term care settings, some of our services are community-based and highly specialized.

Crosstown Clinic

The Crosstown Clinic is the only clinic in North America to offer medical-grade heroin (diacetylmorphine) and the legal analgesic hydromorphone within a supervised clinical setting to chronic substance use patients.

The site includes an on-site pharmacy where pharmacists, doctors, nurses, social workers and addictions counsellors are available for patients. We also offer life-skills counselling, housing referrals and direction to legal assistance.

The clinic is located in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

Community Dialysis Units

Providence Health Care, in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, operates seven community dialysis units in Vancouver and the Coastal regions:

These community dialysis units help patients receive this life-saving procedure closer to home. Each of these settings offer local health professionals an opportunity to work close to where they live.
