About this clinic

If you have been booked for surgery at St. Paul’s Hospital or Mount Saint Joseph Hospital, your surgeon may ask you to visit the Pre-Admission Clinic.

This visit will take place one to three weeks before your surgery date at the hospital. Sometimes, it can take place as close as one to two days before your surgery. Clinic visits take place either in person or over the telephone.

The team at this clinic makes sure you are well-prepared for your surgery. We assess your suitability for the surgical procedure you are having. We may arrange for any tests or consultations with health care workers that you might need before surgery.

During your visit or call, a hospital anesthesiologist will answer your questions and address any concerns.

Anesthesiologists are physicians who specialize in ensuring patient safety before, during and after surgery. They administer the medications to prevent sensation during surgery or the feeling of pain.
