Anal Manometry Clinic

During your visit

When you arrive at St. Paul’s Hospital for your procedure, please check in at the GI reception desk. You will find this outside of the GI Clinic.

The anal manometry procedure takes about 30 minutes. You may experience some discomfort, but the test is not painful, and you will not need anesthesia.

A doctor will perform the procedure with a nurse present. You will need to undress from the waist down and lay on your left side with your knees bent in the fetal position. A well-lubricated small catheter (also known as a "probe") will be inserted into your anus. This probe will take various measurements.
