BC researchers are playing a key role in a new national organ transplant research program announced by the federal government, including developing technology designed to reduce organ rejection and the need to take immune-suppressing drugs.
Federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq announced $11.25 million in funding for six projects through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, along with $2.5 million in money from other health agencies like the Canadian Liver Foundation and Genome British Columbia. The announcement was made in Ottawa at the start of National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness week. Clinical trials will be managed through Vancouver General Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital.
