New Pregnancy, Birthing and Newborn Centre website now live

The Maternity Centre has launched a new website that showcases the inclusive, accessible, and comprehensive maternity care services offered at St. Paul’s Hospital. To better reflect this work, the Centre has also renamed itself the Pregnancy, Birthing and Newborn Centre.

The new website, organized based on feedback from past St. Paul’s Hospital maternity patients and other new parents, is designed to be warm and welcoming. The language throughout is patient-centred and, as much as possible, gender-neutral.

“I want to thank all the staff members who contributed to the site’s development over the past few months,” says Jen Duff, program director of the maternity and neonatal intensive care unit, “We now have a site that tells the story of the wraparound supports we provide parent and baby, including prenatal workshops, lactation support, postpartum follow up and mental health support.”

The Pregnancy, Birthing and Newborn Centre offers expectant parents the experience of delivering their baby in a small, personalized birthing unit, supported by a team of highly qualified and caring staff. Staff take the time to understand the pregnant person’s birth plan and work with them to make their birthing experience positive and memorable.

In addition to supporting low-risk pregnant people, the Centre is also the provincial hub for high-risk maternal care. Approximately 20 per cent of the babies born at St. Paul’s Hospital are born to parents with complex-care needs, including organ transplants, substance-use concerns or cardiac conditions.
