Foundry is looking for a Peer Support and Family Engagement Coordinator to support our ongoing development of Peer Support programming in centres across the province. We are looking for a full time Peer Support and Family Engagement Coordinator with direct experience providing peer or family support to youth, young adults and their families. This position will provide expertise that will support and guide Foundry centre leadership as well as offer training for Youth Peer Support Workers in Foundry centres and in community-based settings. Experience working in an integrated team environment as well as with external community partners both in person and on virtual platforms would be an asset. In addition, this position would also advocate for the importance of peer and family support services in an integrated team setting and consult with provincial, national and international stakeholders.

Summary

Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, Virtual Care, the Peer Support and Family Engagement Coordinator acts as a leader and member of a community based integrated team, utilizing consumer knowledge gained from lived experience of Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) in supporting the organization’s peer and family training, education and support programs and/ or engagement services. Foundry Virtual provides online youth and family peer support services to youth and youth adults with, and affected by, Mental Health and Substance Use concerns. The Peer Support and Family Engagement Coordinator will coordinate curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of youth peer and family support engagement services. The Coordinator will make recommendations and support on-going modifications to the youth peer and family support programs and/ or services. Provides one on one support to youth and families with mental health and substance use related issues, builds relationships and determines family needs. The Coordinator will assist with the recruitment and intake of the Youth Peer Support Workers/Peer Support Workers while facilitating peer based mentoring and guidance. Assesses peer support workers readiness to participate in program activities, provides practicum placements and liaises periodic check-ins. The Peer Support and Family Engagement Coordinator builds linkages with community agencies and service providers for the coordination and integration of youth and family-focused Mental Health and Substance Use, attends team meetings, case conferences, provides education sessions within the organization, acts as a leader on the Youth Advisory Committee and participates in the network for peer and family support initiatives.

Education

Diploma in Community Social Services or a related field from a recognized program and two (2) years’ recent, related experience working with Youth or Families with Mental Health and Substance Abuse issues or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Lived experience with mental illness/substance use and recovery, plus completion of/ eligible for completion of a recognized peer support training program

Duties

1. Coordinates, plans and facilitates the youth peer and family training, education and support programs and/ or services in partnership with established or potential partnering organizations, agencies or involved families. Assists with curriculum development and implementation and coordinates the Youth Peer Support/Peer Support Workers to ensure the program initiatives are met. Acts as a peer-representative and shares own consumer knowledge to ensure the program is developed from a youth/lived experience perspective.
2. Supports and makes recommendations to the Clinical Coordinator, Virtual Care in the development and on-going modifications of the youth peer and family training, education and support programs and/ or services in collaboration with established or potential partnering organizations, agencies or involved families. Shares the program modifications, accomplishments and opportunities with other peer and family support networks.
3. Provides one on one support to youth and families with mental health and substance use related issues as required. Establishes relationships with involved families and determines family’s needs.
4. Assists the Clinical Coordinator with the recruitment and orientation of the Youth Peer Support Workers/Peer Support Workers in partnership with established or potential partnering organizations, agencies or involved families. Reviews applicants, partakes in interviews and supports the selection process.
5. Facilitates peer-based mentoring and guidance to support Youth Peer Support/Peer Support Workers in their exploration of skill-building, growth, empowerment, and community development.
6. Supports the Clinical Coordinator on assessments with the Youth Peer Support Workers/Peer Support Workers through interviews or meetings to assess peer support workers readiness and ability to participate in the training program.
7. Coordinates peer support placements and practicums. Provides periodic check-ins with practicum students or youth in the peer support training program and liaises with site supervisors to ensure the success of each student.
8. Engages in on-going evaluation and quality improvement initiatives related to youth peer and family support service delivery to ensure quality, effective family client-family centered practices. Participates in professional development and revision of standards to improve service delivery through the revision of current, or development of new practices and program initiatives.
9. Provides education and supports change management within the organization to build knowledge and capacity regarding youth peer and family support services, including but not limited to staff in-services, community education sessions, and committee/network involvement. Acts as the liaison between the program and the staff to encourage organizational involvement.
10. Consults, collaborates, and builds partnerships with community agencies and service providers for the coordination and integration of youth-focused Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) peer and family support services. Identifies trends, needs, and priorities of MHSU-related issues of youth, peer-workers and families.
11. Coordinates youth engagement initiatives, acts as a leader and provides input on the Youth Advisory Community. Builds relationships and develops programs specific to youth engagement.
12. Participates in team meetings providing input, presenting relevant material, acting as an advocate for the goals and objectives of the program, and promoting optimal support for youth and family clients.
13. Partakes in Social Media activities related to Foundry Virtual including uploading content to Social Media Sites as per Foundry guidelines. Works with Foundry Communications to maintain Foundry Virtual social media channels and monitors related activity.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
