Supervises designated staff. Performs skilled plumbing work at the journeymen level in the installation, alteration and repair of plumbing systems. Installs, tests, maintains and repairs natural gas lines, appliances, equipment and accessories in accordance with the British Columbia Gas Safety Code; inspects and tests cross connection and back flow prevention systems.

Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a journeyman Plumber; Class B level Gas fitters license with an electrical endorsement recognized by the Province of BC. Valid certificate of Competency as a Cross Connection Control Specialist by the American Water Works Association, British Columbia Section.

Four (4) years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Supervises designated Plumbers, Plumber/Steamfitters and Maintenance by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments, inspecting completed work projects to ensure conformance with established standards, applicable codes and regulations, evaluating employee performance and determining related training and orientation requirements; establishes and oversees a preventive maintenance program.

Reviews work requests and consults with user departments to arrange work schedules and discuss specifications and other project requirements.

Interprets blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine material and equipment requirements.

Calculates materials and labour to provide cost estimation of project and makes recommendations as necessary.

Prepares for work project by confirming work schedule with user department and assembling supplies, tools and equipment.

Installs and repairs pipe and plumbing systems in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, by performing duties such as bolting, soldering, gluing and caulking.

Installs, tests, maintains and repairs natural gas lines, appliances, equipment and accessories in accordance with the BC Gas Safety Code.

Inspects and tests a variety of cross connection control devices such as pressure reducers, back flow assemblies, double check valve assemblies and pressure vacuum breaker assemblies, using equipment such as dead weight testers, water columns, mercury and manometers and differential gauges.

Repairs and/or replaces items such as pipes, valves and fixtures by cutting, threading and assembling.

Carries out the plumbing preventative maintenance program by inspecting piping systems, and other plumbing fixtures for repair and maintenance needs and for conformance to applicable codes and regulations.

Maintains an inventory of supplies, equipment and tools; completes related records and reports; makes recommendations for purchase.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
