Under general supervision maintains bed booking reservation system by performing duties such as maintaining accurate bed census, assigning patient accommodation, arranging patient transfers, supervising designated staff, and performing admitting functions as required.


Ability to keyboard at 45 w.p.m.

Grade 12 and three years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Ensures timely registration and assignment of beds to patients by performing duties such as receiving and confirming request for services form physician’s office, nursing unit staff, emergency staff and Admitting Office and coordinating booking activities to ensure priorities such as emergency admissions are assigned properly. Confirms patient status by receiving patient information from physician, confirming patient accommodation status and confirming patient condition to ensure patients are properly placed in suitable accommodation.

Maintains accurate bed reservation system by performing duties such as contacting wards to verify bed availability using discharge records and maintaining bed availability/ utilization records such as bed restrictions by receiving calls from nursing units. Reviews and verifies pervious day’s activity reports such as off-service patient lists to ensure priority placements. Maintains waiting list for patient admissions by receiving bed requests from physicians and advising when vacancy occurs.

Arranges patient transfers to and from other health care facilities by performing duties such as receiving request forms, receiving calls from services such as Air Ambulance and Critical Care Bed Line, receiving calls from physicians and referring to appropriate facility as per demographics.

Supervises designated staff by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments, evaluating employee performance and determining related orientation and training requirements.

Performs admitting functions by performing duties such as receiving and interviewing patients, completing and processing admitting records, contacting personnel for missing information, entering data into a computerized system, and distributing information as required.

Performs other related duties as required.
