Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation

Providence Health Care is dedicated to delivering the highest standard of care and improving health and wellness outcomes for Indigenous Peoples in BC. Our ability to advance issues of social justice and actively address anti-Indigenous racism are congruent with, and inspired by, our Declaration of Commitment to Cultural Safety and Humility within health services signed with the First Nations Health Authority in 2017, and our work to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) as the framework for action, and embed the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) Calls to Action in the organization.

The Indigenous Wellness & Reconciliation (IWR) department was formally established in June 2020. Housed within Mission to align with the Mission, Vision, Values of Providence Health Care, programs include:

  • Indigenous Health & Wellness
  • Indigenous Cultural Safety & Humility
  • Indigenous Community Engagement (New St. Paul’s Redevelopment Project)
