A Message from the
VP of Research…
Welcome to the Providence Health Care Research Institute (PHCRI), the research enterprise of Providence Health Care (PHC), an academic health science centre affiliated with the University of British Columbia.
Providence Health Care is an adult acute and residential care provider located in Vancouver, British Columbia. Our largest facility, St. Paul's Hospital, is located in downtown Vancouver, BC and is known for its research in the areas of heart, lung and kidney care, HIV/AIDS, critical care, mental health and addiction and other urban health issues.
Elder care research is conducted at Honoria Conway at St. Vincent's Heather, an assisted living facility operated by Providence Health Care.
At PHCRI, we focus on research that pursues real life health solutions for the patients and residents cared for at Providence Health Care and across the province of British Columbia. PHCRI has over 140 principal investigators.
PHCRI is home to several Research Centres whose areas of research are directly aligned with the priority care programs of Providence Health Care:
UBC James Hogg Research Centre
Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences
BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS
Centre for Healthy Aging at Providence
Centre for Practitioner Renewal
PHCRI also houses to two national research programs:
CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network
Many factors must coalesce to make a successful hospital-based, university affiliated research institute. The primary ingredient is our outstanding researchers and trainees supported by excellent staff and efficient research support systems. PHCRI believes that effective translation of research into care requires the integration of research with clinical care. This vision enables us to better the lives of our patients and residents today and will ensure innovation in health care in the future.
It is this common vision within our organization that drives our research programs to be leaders in Canada, BC and our community. Join us in our pursuit of real life health solutions to better the lives of our patients today and for tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Yvonne Lefebvre, Ph.D.
