Research Support Services at Providence are organized in the Office of Research Services (ORS).
The PHC Research Institute was established in 2005 to promote the Providence
research vision, to facilitate integrative research among researchers
and to enhance the uptake of new knowledge into practice. A key mandate
of the Research Institute is to increase peer-reviewed funding at Providence.
Office of Research Services (ORS)
The Office of Research Services (ORS) is accountable for Providence Health Care's compliance with the complex ethical, legal and regulatory framework for research on human subjects.
Research Ethics Board
The ORS provides support to the Providence Health Care / UBC Research Ethics Board (REB). Any research involving humans at Providence must be reviewed by the REB. Applications for clinical research are submitted to the REB through the Office of Research Services. The forms, guidelines, submission deadlines and schedule of REB meetings are available on this site under Ethics.
Contract Negotiation
The ORS is responsible for the promotion and management of all sponsored research arrangements including research chairs, grants, clinical trials, and research contracts for researchers at all PHC hospitals affiliated with the University of British Columbia. This includes negotiating and managing all industry-sponsored research agreements, as well as agreements with government and other academic institutions.
Research Promotion and Communication
The Office of Research Services also provides the following services:
- Identification of funding opportunities for Providence researchers
- Facilitation of the funding application process
- Facilitation of knowledge transfer to researchers, care providers, policy-makers, private industry and the public
- Promotion of educational opportunities for researchers and trainees
