Opinion: Care for whole person to address addiction
We applaud Drs. Michael Krausz, Kerry Jang and William McEwan’s practical suggestions in a recent opinion piece to move beyond Band-aid solutions to address the opioid crisis in B.C.
We would like to expand on their suggestions by sketching out what their call for “treatment on demand” might look like. We would argue that the province needs to fund treatment beyond a strict medical model.
While we focus on treatment, we recognize that solutions at several levels are required — including affordable, quality housing, policing of drug trafficking and legalization of certain drugs.
