Opinion: Giving the gift of life (St. Paul's Hospital)
In April 2007, I was told to find a kidney donor.
My other option was to begin an average 12 years on dialysis while I waited for a cadaver kidney. I had watched my father die on dialysis and I was afraid I wouldn’t last.
I made a list of all the people I knew that I felt comfortable asking for a kidney. St. Paul’s Hospital kidney clinic gave me fantastic coaching, and a phone number that people could call privately to check on what they faced if they offered me their kidney.
