Your care at Youville should meet your needs and exceed your expectations.
Menus are developed by registered dietitians, including therapeutic diets if needed. Family members are welcome to assist people receiving care with meals, and favourite food items, in discussion with the dietitian and/or occupational therapist, can be brought in from home.
Meals are served at:
Breakfast 8:45 – 9:10 a.m.
Lunch 12:00 – 12:20 p.m.
Dinner 5:00-5:20 p.m.
Guest meals are available at lunch and dinner. Meal tickets can be purchased from the receptionist in advance.
The Nutrition Services Department can provide food for special occasions or celebrations. Contact the Food Service supervisor for items available and the price list. One week’s notice is required for special orders.
Social work services are provided for all people receiving care residents and families. The social worker:
- Counsels individuals and families.
- Makes referrals to appropriate community agencies.
- Provides education to residents, families.
- Advocates on behalf of people receiving care and families.
As part of the initial assessment, the social worker gathers information about the person’s background, financial situation, social support system, strengths and achievements. Counselling can be provided to assist with stress due to illness, bereavement or a change of location.
A pharmacist regularly reviews all medication. All medications are covered by BC Pharmacare are provided without charge.
When people are first transferred to Parkview, they are assessed by an occupational therapist and physiotherapist. The therapist assists with seating and mobility requirements, safety needs, recommends equipment if necessary, and helps develop a care plan- including assessment for group therapy/exercise programs. Rehabilitation assistants and recreation staff run a variety of social, recreational and therapeutic programs. There is also a wheelchair-accessible bus to travel to community events, and families and friends are encouraged to participate in events and outings.
A music therapist also works on Parkview on a part-time basis. Therapies such as speech, massage or physiotherapy can be arranged on a fee-for-service basis. Contact the Rehab Department for more information.
Podiatry services are provided by an accredited podiatrist (physician prescription required). There is a fee for this service.
If you do not speak or understand English well enough to have conversations about your health, we can book an interpreter (at no cost). Interpreter Services are available 24-hours-a-day. For daily communication, we can use various tools, such as pictures and translated cards.
Patients, residents, and family members can ask a member of the health care team to place a request for an interpreter. For more information click here.
Pastoral Care Services
Pastoral care associates are available 24-hours per day to offer people receving care and family members emotional and spiritual support. At parkview, each person is seen as unique and deserving of affirmation, respect and love. Individual religious and spiritual beliefs are respected. Pastoral care associates aim to nurture, support and guide residents in an atmosphere of trust, compassion and confidentiality.
Priests, ministers, rabbis and leaders of all faith traditions are welcome to minister to their followers and encouraged to share in providing services on a regular basis.
The chapel, located on the main floor, is inter-denominational and open 24 hours a day. Everyone is welcome to attend any of the services or to visit the chapel for reflective time. Schedules are posted around the facility and updated on a monthly basis.
A hairdressing salon is available onsite and the hairdresser visits Youville. Hair appointments can be made directly with the hairdresser or at the nursing station. Charges can be deducted from the personal comfort account.
Personal laundry services are provided for residents. Clothes are picked up, laundered and returned to the resident’s room. Dry cleaning must be arranged by family members.
A public phone is available on the main floor. If a private telephone is preferred, the person or family, after consultation with the care team, is welcome to make arrangements directly with Telus.
Cable television is available in most (but not all) of the rooms. Discussion with the care team is required prior to setting up the service. Upon hook up, there are charges withdrawn from the comfort fund on a monthly basis. TVs are not provided by the facility and will need to be purchased independently for the room. Alternatively, there are several large screen TV’s located in the lounges, on each of the floors including the main floor.
Youville Gift Shop is located on the main floor. Family and friends are welcome to purchase a variety of cards, gifts, snacks or supplies. Volunteers operate the shop Monay – Friday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All funds raised support our residents/clients through donations to Tapestry Foundation.
