Fred Lee's Social Network: Audain gallery gala shines, Looking Glass raises funds for eating disorders (SPH)
Gala chairs Sue Adams and Jacquie Prokopanko and a team of 22 committee members welcomed an impressive crowd to Illuminate, the Michael Audain Art Museum’s signature soirée. An opportunity to shine a spotlight on the impressive Whistler gallery, its supporters and B.C. artists, more than 350 patrons took in the dress-up dinner party that included dance performances by Arts Umbrella, Max Mara fashion show, and an exclusive live auction of one-of-a-kind experiences and coveted art.
Stunning works by Canadian artists Doria Moodie, Shawn Hunt, Gordon Smith, Christos Dikeakos, Ross Penhall, Edward Burtynsky and Kim Dorland went on the auction block, all going way beyond asking. Dorland’s oil on canvas would fetch the night’s top bid, selling for nearly four times the book value to Canaccord Financial scion Peter Brown, who may have been looking for a replacement to the $1.8 million E.J. Hughes painting Coastal Boats Near Sidney B.C. he and his wife Joanne recently donated to Emily Carr University.
Dr. Julia Raudus, Patty Yoon, Lauren Jennings and Hannah Robinson from St. Paul’s Hospital’s provincial adult tertiary specialized eating disorders program lent their support to the cause.
