Santa Claus visits St. Paul’s Hospital’s Maternity Centre
In what has become a well-known Vancouver Christmas tradition, Santa Claus (Dal Richards) paid a visit to the Maternity Centre at St. Paul's Hospital today (Tuesday, December 16, 2014) at noon.
Santa makes the visit every year on behalf of Variety - The Children's Charity, major donors to the Maternity Centre's Variety Special Care Nursery. Santa sang and gave away stuffed animals and blankets to children and parents in the Centre, along with his friends from Variety.
Dal Richards is a beloved figure on the Vancouver music scene, a world-renowned band leader and Ambassador-at-Large for Variety - The Children's Charity. He has been visiting St. Paul's Hospital for more than 20 years. His special connection to the maternity ward at St. Paul's began with the birth of his daughter Dallas — a “preemie” born at St. Paul's in November 1951. He was so grateful for the care she received during her six week stay that he jumped at the chance to be Variety's Ambassador-at-Large.
St. Paul's Hospital is part of Providence Health Care, one of Canada's largest faith-based health care organizations.
Variety - The Children's Charity raises funds and distributes grants throughout British Columbia to inspire hope, enrich lives and build a better future for children who have special needs.
