Santa comes early to St. Paul's Maternity!
In what has become a well-known Vancouver Christmas tradition, Santa Claus (Dal Richards) visited the Maternity Centre at St. Paul's Hospital on Tuesday, December 17.
L-R: Dal Richards (Santa), together with Zee Simpson, Variety volunteer, and Liz Hennessey, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, St. Paul's Hospital, place a teddy bear in a preemie baby's first Christmas stocking in St. Paul's neonatal intensive care unit.
Santa makes the visit every year on behalf of Variety – The Children's Charity, major donors to the Maternity Centre's Variety Special Care Nursery. Santa will be singing and giving away stuffed animals and blankets to children and parents in the Centre, along with his friends from Variety.

Dal Richards is a beloved figure on the Vancouver music scene, a world-renowned band leader, and Ambassador-at-Large for Variety – The Children's Charity. He has been visiting St. Paul's Hospital for more than 20 years. His special connection to the maternity ward at St. Paul's began with the birth of his daughter Dallas – a “preemie” born at St. Paul's in November 1951. He was so grateful for the care she received during her six week stay that he jumped at the chance to be Variety's Ambassador-at-Large.
