FUNDRAISING EFFORTS TO HELP MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH HOSPITAL BECOME THE FIRST IN WESTERN CANADA WITH 3D BREAST IMAGING TECHNOLOGY
“The community has been generous in supporting the Scotiabank Feast of Fortune, “says Mrs. Anita Law, one of the event co-chairs. “Over the past five years this event has raised more than $1.3 million for priority equipment needs at MSJ. This coming year we need help to equip our hospital with new technology that can help us fight breast cancer and save women’s lives.”
More than 2,700 women receive expert care at MSJ’s Rapid Access Breast Clinic each year. Dr. Jin-Si Pao, one of MSJ’s specialized breast surgeons, notes that specialists rely on imaging, primarily mammography and ultrasound, to monitor breast health in women who are at higher risk of developing breast cancer or who have already undergone cancer treatment.
“The new 3D Ultrasound Breast Scanner provides us with superior images for examining the dense breast tissue that is commonly found in young women and Asian women,” Dr. Pao says. “It also provides high quality images of a woman’s entire breast – these are extremely valuable to us as we prepare to perform breast cancer surgeries.”
The Scotiabank Feast of Fortune event is a celebration of Chinese New Year that includes fine dining, live and silent auctions, entertainment and opportunities for donors to pledge their support during the evening’s “Save a Life” segment.
The volunteer Fundraising Committee for 2013 is co-chaired by Mrs. Anita Law, Mr. Chris Stepien and Mrs. Margaret Chiu, with Tapestry Foundation director Mr. Sing Lim Yeo serving as honorary chair.
