An integral part of the Legacy Project is the renewal and redevelopment of PHC’s residential care facilities. Currently, our land on Vancouver's Westside (previously home to St . Vincent's Hospital, Heather) is being redeveloped into a 'Campus of Care' for seniors. When the Campus of Care is complete, Providence will be able to offer a broad range of residential and non-residential services for seniors, allowing them to age-in-place in a community of choice.

What is a Campus of Care?
A Campus of Care supports seniors to ‘age in place’ rather than have to move as their care needs increase through a broad range of health and housing options, which could include:

• Independent living;
• Supported Living-housing and optional hospitality services (meals,etc.)
• Assisted Living – personal care, housing and hospitality services (meals and cleaning)
• Complex or Extended Residential Care – round-the-clock care
• Rehabilitative services;
• Palliative care; and,
• Special outpatient clinics

While most of the individual components of the Campus have not yet been confirmed, it will provide seniors in the community with:

• Easy access to on-site clinics;
• Support services such as meals or rehabilitation;
• Health and wellness programs;
• Independence;
• Choice/flexibility and opportunities for companionship;
• Normalcy and engagement;
• Encouragement for intergenerational relationships;
• Easy acceto health and supportive services;
• Support of spirituality, reflection and growth; and,
• Support of physical and intellectual growth.

Each person's physical, emotional and spiritual needs will be supported through Providence's “Eden Care” philosophy — a holistic-care focus that reduces the loneliness, helplessneand boredom facing many seniors, and provides them a more home-like environment.

The first component of this Campus of Care is the newly built residence for seniors who live independently with assistance, Honoria Conway at St. Vincent's Heather, which opened at the end of August 2008. Click here to learn more about Honoria Conway.
