Maternity
Every year, 1,800 women choose to have their babies at St. Paul's, where a comprehensive obstetrical service is available for both low-risk moms-to-be and high-risk women who may require the support of an Intensive Care Unit.
The family-centred approach means that for most families all necessary care will be provided in one room. A partner or support person is encouraged to stay with the mother and baby to provide support through their hospital stay. A Neonatal Intensive Care unit is available for babies who require closer nursing observation and care. St. Paul's is a major teaching facility for obstetric physicians and nurses.
Prenatal Education Programs
St. Paul's Maternity Centre also promotes education through Childbirth Preparation Classes. We offer evening series classes which include a postpartum reunion class. Content of the classes focuses on discussion about physical and emotional changes during pregnancy, labour and delivery, management of labour pain, tests and procedures, care of mother and baby, breastfeeding and what to expect when you get home. We also offer a Prenatal-in-a-Day workshop that is a concentrated session which focuses on labour and delivery. For more information about our programand registration information, please click here. For a schedule of our available classes, download the 2010 schedule.
To register for Childbirth Preparation Classes, call 604-806-8298 or fill out this registration form. Please note that the prenatal phone line is just an answering service. We will reply to your call within 1-2 business days.
