Wound Care Link Nurse Workshop A

February 2 (8:00am - 4:00pm)

This workshop is primarily designed for nurses from all clinical areas, including RN's, RPN's and LPN's, however, other disciplines are welcome to attend. Student nurses may attend, however they must have completed the wound care component of their curriculum as the course content assumes the participant has a basic level of knowledge and experience in wound care. This workshop will take place at St. Paul's Hospital, Conference Centre on Providence Level 1, New Lecture Theatre.

Feast of Fortune

February 5

Join us for a Chinese New Year celebration and help raise funds for Mount Saint Joseph Hospital (MSJ). The Scotiabank Feast of Fortune will take place at the Continental Seafood Restaurant in Richmond. Proceeds from this year's event will support the Surgical Care Campaign for new video surgical systems in the hospital's operating room. White Cane Week

February 7-13

After he was blinded in an accident, a photographer named James Biggs, of Bristol, England, painted his cane white so that people could see him more easily at night. Biggs' innovation has become an internationally accepted symbol of blindness.

The Providence Heart + Lung Institute's 4th annual Heart, Lung & Blood Research and Education Fest takes place March 8 and 9 at the Sutton Place Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia.

- Eating at-risks
- Leaving the hospital against medical advice
- Consuming addictive substances and

- In the age of patient autonomy, should professionals advance patients’ clinical interests against their wishes?

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week pays tribute to the 12 million Canadians who donate their time and energy to better the lives of others. National Volunteer Week was first proclaimed in 1943 as an initiative to draw the public's attention to the vital contribution of women to the war effort on the home front. In the late 1960s, the focus was revived and broadened to include all community volunteers. Providence Health Care would like to thank all of its 1500 volunteers for their support. ALS Awareness Month

Approximately 2,500 - 3,000 Canadians currently live with ALS, a devastating neurodegenerative disease, which progressively paralyzes sufferers due to degeneration of the upper and lower motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Please visit www.als.ca for more information.

National Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Awareness Month

Spina Bifida is a birth defect that involves damage to the spine and the nervous tissue of the spinal cord. Some vertebrae of the spine don’t close properly during development and the spinal cord’s nerves don’t develop normally. Hydrocephalus is caused when people with spina bifida experience a build-up of cerebrospinal fluid inside the skull. This must be managed early with a shunt, or brain damage will occur when the baby’s head can no longer get bigger, after the skull bones have fused. Please visit sbhac.ca for more information.

Canadian Patient Safety Week (November 1-5, 2010)

The Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) launched Canadian Patient Safety Week as a national annual campaign in 2005 as part of its mandate to build and advance a safer health system for Canadians. The goal of Canadian Patient Safety Week is to increase awareness of patient safety issues and share information about best practices in patient safety.

Tapestry Foundation’s Angel Campaign

Be an Angel throughout the month of December by making a donation to the Angel Campaign. The Angel Campaign is one of the largest fundraising initiatives of the year for Tapestry Foundation for Health Care.


Look for angels to be lit at each of the sites heralding news of the campaign. Angel trees with hundreds of angels - each bearing the name of a special donor - are also on display at Providence sites supported by Tapestry Foundation.
