Fellowship
The PHC/UBC part-time paid fellowship program in bioethics provides graduate students and medical residents/fellows real-life opportunities to develop abilities to identify and analyze ethical issues arising in clinical, organizational, and/or research settings. This program promotes the fellows' abilities to use reasonable clinical judgment, communicate effectively, negotiate and resolve conflict, and act as a resource for healthcare professionals who are faced with the daily challenges of delivering ethical care. Fellows pursue their training while registered in UBC's graduate practicum course in bioethics (INDS 502P).
Expected Outcomes:
1. Fellows will develop the ability to contextualize and apply various ethical frameworks and principles in complex clinical, organizational, and research settings.
2. Fellows will acquire the ability to develop curricula and facilitate or present ethics education sessions for clinicians, allied health professionals, researchers, and administrators.
3. Fellows will develop the skills to conduct relevant research in and provide ethical analysis for common complex issues arising in contemporary health care and research settings.
4. Fellows will develop the necessary mediation, communication, and negotiation skills to facilitate ethics consultation and conflict resolution.
Duration of Fellowship:
1 year (September 1 to August 31). Renewable for an additional year.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master or Doctoral students in health-related disciplines or medical humanities 2. Graduate students in clinical or allied-health programs 3. Medical residents and fellows
