What Do Our Services
Look Like?
Ethical questions arise when it is unclear what values should guide our actions. The Ethics Consultation service provides support for staff, patients or families in times of ethical uncertainty or conflict. It supports those involved to ensure that the most appropriate care is being delivered to the patient/resident in question in a manner that respects all the parties involved and their relationships.
The process of ethics consultation includes exploring the ethical dimensions of the situation, clarifying values, identifying ethically sound approaches and resolving value disagreements.
A consult can also be requested to facilitate an organizational issue within a unit, department or site. The PHC Ethics Resource Forum, a team of interdisciplinary professionals, has also been established to assist Ethics Services in addressing complex ethical issues and problems as they occur in complex systems and inter-relationships.
