Do you have experience caring for patients living with dementia, complex behavioural symptoms, mental illnesses, and require long term residential support? We are looking to hire TCW (Total Care Workers) to help support our residential site located at Youville Residence. If you are a registered BC Care Aide and have 2 years’ recent experience working with older adults with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, we want to hear from you. In order to be considered for the role you must be available to work on a casual basis with hours ranging from nights, evenings, days, and weekends. Hours are not guaranteed.

Summary

Reporting to the Program Coordinator and under the direction of the Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Social worker, this position works with the interdisciplinary tertiary mental health team within the context of a person and family centred recovery model, to carry out individual or group leisure activities and established nursing/personal care programs. Duties include selecting and carrying out activities, assisting the client with practising daily living skills, accompanying clients on group outings, observing and reporting client progress, participating in unit discussions and in-services, and performing nursing procedures such as administering suppositories and enemas and taking and recording temperature, pulse and respiration. Provides personal care to clients such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and feeding.

Education

Grade 12, graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant Program plus 2 years’ recent experience working with older adults with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
