RN-RPN (Parkview Tertiary Mental Health)
We have exciting casual opportunities for Residential Registered Nurses/Registered Psychiatric Nurses at Youville Residence supporting the Parkview Tertiary Mental Health department. If you are registered with CRNBC/CRPNBC, have experience providing patient care to residential care patients with dementia, complex behavioural symptoms, and mental illness, we want to hear from you! Hours are casual and range from days, evenings, nights, and weekends with no guaranteed hours.
SummaryReporting to the Operations Leader, the Staff Nurse, assesses, identifies, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care required to assist patients/residents/clients in meeting their physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs. The Staff Nurse works within an interdisciplinary clinical framework and/or program based care model in accordance with the CRNBC/CRPNBC Standards of Practice and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established protocols of Providence Health Care.

EducationRegistered Nurse with current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia or, in Residential Care and Mental Health a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with current practicing registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia. Completion of the Basic Cardiac Life Support Course, Level C.
Two (2) years’ recent related experience working with individuals with severe and persistent psychiatric illness.
DutiesReviews patient/resident/client status through methods such as reviewing the patient/resident/client chart and other written information, patient/resident observation, collateral information and consultation with peers and other members of the health care team.
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for patients/residents/clients using a framework for nursing practice.
Develops, implements, evaluates and revises individual care plans through methods such as assessing patient/resident/client problems and needs, planning and prioritizing nursing interventions, implementing interventions and reassessing if goals are not met and modifying plan of care based on evaluation.
Provides nursing care according to identified policies and procedures, technology and PHC standards and evaluates outcomes, records observations and reports problems and/or changes to designated staff.
Identifies patient/resident/client and family learning needs and incorporates teaching and counseling into the care plan and nursing interventions and/or makes referrals to other identified resources.
Provides direction to other staff such as Care Attendants and/or Licensed Practical Nurses and/or Total Care Workers with regard to patient/resident/client care and facilitates effective team work on the units. Responsibilities include but are not limited to collegial sharing of information, demonstrating and/or providing guidance on related tasks, providing incidental or ad hoc input into staff performance, ensuring staff are aware of assignments and reassigning clinical/health related tasks.
Provides direct nursing interventions for management of crisis and life threatening situations.
Documents information including assessments, nursing care plans, patient/resident/client status and progress and discharge plans in a manual and/or computerized environment.
