Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse Geriatric
“One South” is the 16 bed Geriatric Psychiatry Unit (GPU) for older adults with psychiatric illness such as depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder or dementia with psychosocial and behavioural symptoms (BPSD). Expected length of stay for our patients is between one to six weeks. During their stay, patients will be assessed and treated by our interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, family doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, dieticians, pharmacists, social workers and nurses. The goal of treatment is to assess, treat and stabilize patients before discharging them back to the community and to provide support to the families/support systems.
Reporting to the Operations Leader, the Staff Nurse, assesses, identifies, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care required to assist patients/residents in meeting their physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs. The Staff Nurse works within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the CRNBC/CRPNBC Standards of Practice and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established protocols of Providence Health Care.
Education, Training and Experience:
Registered Nurse with current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia or, in Residential Care and Mental Health a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with current practicing registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia. Completion of the Basic Cardiac Life Support Course, Level C.
Two years’ recent experience working in acute/community psychiatry and working with group counseling.
