Summary

Reporting to the Operations Site Leader and in cooperation with the members of the interdisciplinary team, plans, implements and evaluates recreation programs for the designated unit/program, and within the context of a person and family centred strength based recovery model. Provides a variety of physical, emotional, and social supports, advocacy, life skills assistance and support to access resources to individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team in the development of individualized recovery plans; monitors the functioning levels of the client through the application of current principles of recovery-based mental health care and general knowledge of psychiatric disorders; assesses potential emergency situations and makes necessary interventions as required; and establishes, maintains and enhances therapeutic relationships based on respect. Promotes maximum levels of independence for clients while supporting them with activities of daily living such as personal care community appointments/errands/activities and meal planning and preparation. Assists in maintaining a safe environment for clients and the team. Participates in team meetings, engages in team planning and quality improvement activities, and maintains and updates own knowledge.

Education

Graduation from a recognized therapeutic recreation diploma program plus one years’ recent, related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
