We have an exciting casual medical transcription clerk position that has recently opened up at the Cambie Transcription HUB. If you are available to work on a casual basis, have completed an MOA, HSS and/or Health Information Management Diploma and are looking to make an impact we want to hear from you! In order to be considered for the position you must be able to type 50WPM and be available to work on a casual basis with no guaranteed hours. Reporting to the Leader, Transcription Services, the Clerk, Transcription Services performs a variety of clerical and typing duties such as importing patient data and/or retrieving patient data from transcription discs and data safes, uploading information into a computerized database, checking demographics for accuracy, printing/photocopying various reports for distribution and/or faxing to designated areas as required, filing a variety of material according to established procedures or as directed, typing correspondence, and ordering supplies by completing requisition orders, as needed.

Grade 12, one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Imports data and/or receives data from transcription discs and data safes and uploads into computerized database. Matches patient information such as name, physician, unit number and dates to the database and reports any discrepancies to the supervisor to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.

Updates lists and obtains missing information by entering new data either provided by the department or by contacting designated areas to obtain or verify changes into the database in order to ensure most current information is available.

Distributes a variety of materials such as transcribed reports by methods such as printing reports from the computer, and photocopying, collating and forwarding copies to appropriate personnel. Generates address labels for outgoing mail such as doctor’s envelopes as applicable for designated area.

Types non-technical material such as correspondence, labels, addresses/fax number lists from verbal instruction or handwritten draft utilizing a word processing software package.

Maintains stationery levels and supplies for the area according to pre-determined reorder levels by completing requisition orders for authorization/signature and forwarding as appropriate.

Performs reception duties by fielding and transferring telephone calls and taking messages as required.

Demonstrates own work procedures to co-workers.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
