Infection Control Practitioner
SummaryReporting to the Team Leader, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) for administrative issues and the Director, Nursing Practice for professional practice issues, and receiving work direction from the Team Leader and IPAC Medical Director, the Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) works to reduce the acquisition of healthcare-associated infections in patients, residents and staff at Providence Health Care. In addition, the ICP works to develop standards for, and assists in, the monitoring of infection control measures in the patient care areas and in other patient care/service areas/departments, and assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of infection prevention and control initiatives, including educational programs.
SkillsAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to organize work. Ability to operate related equipment including various word processing and spreadsheet software packages. Demonstrated knowledge of infection prevention and control computer applications.
EducationBaccalaureate degree in nursing or diploma in nursing supplemented by a degree in a relevant healthcare scientific discipline. Certificate of completion from a CHICA Canada approved infection control course and or Certificate in Infection Control (American and Canadian Infection Control Association exam), plus one (1) year experience directly related to the area of infection prevention and control including surveillance, data management, policy development, public health, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Current Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia.
