Summary

Reporting to the designated Physiotherapy Site Leader, and receiving overall direction from the Professional Practice Leader and/or guidance and support from the Research, Education and Practice Coordinator, the position supports the interdisciplinary program/team in achieving program, patient and resident goals. Functions as an expert practitioner, educator, consultant and researcher by applying a conceptual model and relevant theory at an advanced level to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the delivery of physiotherapy care within a specific area of clinical expertise. Inherent in these functions is the administrative responsibility and authority to participate in decision making, policy development and program planning for the physiotherapy practice.

Education

Baccalaureate Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent. Five (5) years clinical experience, including three (3) years recent related experience in area of specialty. Completion of additional courses in areas such as EV (to a minimum level of E2V2), post surgical joint replacement, electrotherapy, muscle strain, pain modulation, rheumatological management of acute trauma, and evidence based practice. Current registration with the College of Physical Therapists of BC. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and Special Interest Division.

Duties

Provides physiotherapy services to assigned patient group, and provides physiotherapy care to referred patients in area of specialty, through assessment of patients’ families and other health professionals, and reviewing medical records in order to identify appropriate care programs. Designs, implements and monitors a treatment plan that will produce therapeutic outcomes for the patient. Coordinates the implementation and delivery of the therapeutic plan with the patient and other health care professionals. Acts as a clinical resource consultant in designated specialized area by teaching and/or training other physiotherapy staff and health care members within Providence Health Care and other health care facilities and agencies. Plans, develops, assesses and maintains clinical policies and standards in designated specialized area. Evaluates programs and reviews clinical practice in relation to stated outcomes and standards. Facilitates clinical research and trials. Designs/plans orientation program for the designed specialized area for staff and students. Provides input into the evaluation of students and staff as required. Assists in the coordination of day to day caseloads at the site in consultation with the Scheduling Clerk and Professional Practice Leader or designate as required. Makes recommendations for equipment and resource materials required to enhance patient care. Ensures necessary equipment is available and in working order by checking availability and reporting malfunction equipment. Participates in Professional Practice Council meetings to update staff regarding clinical practice issues. In consultation with the Research, Education and Practice Coordinator, assesses need for and organizes educational in-services for physiotherapists and other hospital and community members. Participates in the development of the clinical program curriculum in designated specialized area in conjunction with training schools. Participates as an instructor/teaching assistant at the university level. Participates in the planning for student practicums, organizes clinical site visits and supervises students working in designated area. Performs other related duties as assigned.
