Preparing for Surgery
Eating and Drinking Instructions
From midnight (12:00 am) the night before your surgery, you must not eat or drink anything. We need your stomach to be as empty as possible. The reason for this is - when you go to sleep for your surgery, you may throw up. If your stomach has food or liquid in it, it could go into your lungs.
Medication Instructions:
If you are taking any medications, please follow the directions you are given by the anesthesiologist or the nurse in the Pre-Assessment Clinic.
If you have not been to the Pre-Assessment Clinic, please follow the instructions given to you by your surgeon's office.
If you stay smoke free for 8 weeks before your surgery, you can lower your risk of complications and heal faster!
