Brian Woods

Interim Chief Financial Office

Brian Woods was appointed interim Chief Financial Officer at Providence Health Care on November 6, 2017. Brian has 41 years of health care experience in a variety of capacities including 34 years in senior health care management and 5 years with the Department of Health in Saskatchewan. He previously worked in retail pharmacy for almost two years following graduation from the University of Manitoba in 1973.

Prior to his recent retirement, Brian was the Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer for the Fraser Health Authority (2001 – 2014). Previously he has held similar positions with the Simon Fraser Health Region (1995- 2001) and the Fraser-Burrard Hospital Society (1990 -1995). As a member of the Executive Team he was engaged and participated in a full range of executive responsibilities including strategic planning, performance management, risk management, policy development and other leadership accountabilities.

Earlier in his career he was the Associate Executive Director of the Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg (1980-1990) and a senior hospital analyst with the Saskatchewan Hospital Services Plan (1976-1980).

Academically, Brian has a unique combination of clinical and managerial education. As a practicing pharmacist, he returned to university to complete a Masters Degree in Health Care Administration and later completed the CPA-CMA accounting designation. He is a member of several professional organizations and represented the Fraser Health Authority on numerous industry and government policy and planning committees and Boards.

Over the last few years of his employment with Fraser Health Authority, Brian lead the shared services initiatives leading to Lower Mainland consolidation of clinical and support services across the three Lower Mainland Health Authorities. He also was extensively involved in creating Health Shared Services BC (BCCSS), the provincial organization responsible for province wide procurement and logistics on behalf of health care providers in the Province.

Brian is a Board member of the Canadian Pharmacists Association where he Chairs the Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee. He is also a Board Director of Pacific Blue Cross where he is Chair of their Audit Committee, and member of the Human Resources Committee. He was recently appointed Director of SHARE Family and Community Services, a voluntary agency whose purpose is to connect, engage and strengthen individuals and families – the social safety net for citizens of the Tri-Cities.
