Nursing Excellence
The Medicine Program at Providence offers a challenging work experience desired by many new graduates as well as those returning from specialty programs. Our inpatient units have support provided by Clinical Nurse Leaders and Nurse Educators. There is an extensive orientation, as well as weekly opportunities built in for discussion concerning self-care, patient safety, and safe medication management. Paid Education Programs are held during the year. They allow nurses to attend a variety of seminars during a day away from their units. Nurses are also encouraged to attend a variety of other workshops that include such topics as wound care, workplace safety, and strategies for staying healthy within the environment of shift work.
The attraction to Medicine comes from the complexity and variety of patients cared for and is reinforced by the support and camaraderie nurses find within the care team. For many, an integral part of why they like to work on the medical units is the teamwork. It is not only found in relationships with other nurses but also with physicians and allied staff members. Interdisciplinary meetings, held every weekday morning, give team members a voice in the plans of care for the patients.
We are known for our quality and compassionate care. Patients and families take time to write to us about the “extra effort,” “professionalism and humanity,” and “expertise” that they encountered during their stay.
