Hematology Division
Hematology is the branch of medicine that is concerned with the study of blood, the blood-forming organs, and blood diseases. Hematology includes the study of etiology and the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and prevention of blood diseases.
The Providence Health Care Division of Hematology comprises a faculty of six clinicians who are actively involved in the care of patients with a wide spectrum of hematological disease from the province of BC and the Yukon. The faculty provides primary and consultative care for patients in hospital at St. Paul's, and outpatients in a clinic or office setting.
St. Paul's Hospital is the Provincial Centre for the Adult Hemophilia and Hemosiderosis Programs (Dr. Linda Vickars, Medical Director).

Teaching
The Division of Hematology continues its longstanding tradition of excellence in clinical teaching. Members participate in the teaching activities of the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Department of Medicine, University of British Columbia.
Research
Members conduct clinical research related to thrombosis, hematological malignancies, iron overload and HIV/AIDS. Significant contributions are made to national and international studies. For more information about the Hematology Research Group, please click here.
