Education

The Department of Medicine plays a major role in the Internal Medicine and Royal College specialty programs of the University of British Columbia.  Grand Medical Rounds and a large number of specialty Rounds and presentations are held weekly.  The Department also supports the UBC Department of Medicine Academic Half Day attended by all UBC Medicine Residents.

The Department of Medicine also plays a major role in Undergraduate Program for the University of British Columbia. Members participate in the subspecialty blocks of the 2nd year undergraduate curriculum and are preceptors in the problem-based learning sessions. The Department members are also actively involved in 2nd year bedside teaching, 3rd year clinical clerk rotations, exams, and academic half days, as well as 4th year selective and elective rotations.

Our goal is to provide a program dedicated to excellent teaching in the context of superb clinical care. Teaching is a high priority for the Department, as we take very seriously our responsibility to train the next generation of clinicians and clinician scientists, who represent the future of health care and research. The members in the Department also conduct world-class research and serve as mentors to trainees considering careers in academic medicine.
